Buckley, WA : Driver killed after losing control on rain-slick highway near Buckley on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016

A driver was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning near Buckley after speeding and losing control in slick highway conditions, the Washington State Patrol reports. An investigation found that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the deadly collision, as first thought.
State troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene, south of Buckley at Highway 162 and Mundy Loss Road, at about 6:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
A wrecked and mangled Ford Focus was found on its side off the shoulder near the intersection. The car's driver was trapped inside and later pronounced dead at the scene. No other information was immediately available about the driver.
A damaged red Dodge pickup also was involved in the crash. Its driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Focus was heading east on Highway 162 at speeds too fast for conditions on the wet, slick roadway and lost control on a curve between Buckley and South Prairie.
The car hit the outside guardrail and came back sideways into the opposing lane, where it was hit broadside by the red Dodge pickup, according to the preliminary report.
The driver of the Focus, who died, was at fault in the crash - not the pickup driver, as first thought. The investigation also ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash.
Highway 162 is partially blocked at the crash site, and one lane of alternating traffic is being routed past the scene during the investigation and cleanup of the crash.
