Coyanosa, TX : Couple killed in head-on crash in Pecos County on Thursday, August 25, 2016

A couple in their 80s was killed Thursday when the driver of a full-size truck reportedly fell asleep, entered the northbound lane of FM 1776 in Pecos County and collided with their car head-on, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Friday.

Duane Phillips, 82, who drove a 2014 Toyota Camry, and his 83-year-old passenger, Sarah A. Phillips, were pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal crash that was reported at 12:30 p.m. at FM 1776, about 4.5 miles north of Coyanosa, the DPS reported.

The driver of a 2012 Ford F-350 pickup, Justin B. White, was heading south on FM 1776 when the DPS said White dozed off, entered the northbound lane and collided with Phillips’ car. White suffered minor injuries and was taken to Medical Center Hospital, the DPS reported.
