Cookeville, TN : Multiple crashes on I-40 this morning on Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Three crashes involving four tractor trailers and a car brought traffic to a standstill in Cumberland County early this morning on the westbound side of Interstate 40.

The first one happened just before 3:30 a.m. at mile marker 325 when a tractor trailer with two flat tires on the side of the interstate was struck by another tractor trailer, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Debris from that crash caused traffic to stop, and then a second crash happened when one tractor trailer hit another that had stopped.

The third crash was a car that bumped a tractor trailer, but left the scene, THP reported.

"Thankfully, no one was injured," THP Lt. Jimmy Neal said.

But the three crashes did create traffic problems, and only one of the westbound lanes was open this morning while authorities finished the clean up.
