A state trooper was injured Wednesday after his car struck a tree in Salem County, authorities said.
The accident took place near the intersection of Route 48 and Pennsville-Auburn Road at 12:05 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police Spokesman Captain Brian Polite.
The trooper was in a marked state police vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, he was traveling through the intersection when something happened which caused the trooper to run off the road, Polite said.
The vehicle struck a tree on the north side of Route 48 just west of the intersection.
The trooper was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, with "non life-threatening injuries," according to Polite.
The roadways near the intersection were shut down for the investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Polite said.
