Police are investigating a pair of unrelated fatal motorcycle accidents in Lynn and Springfield, one of which took the life of an off-duty police officer.
State police say one person died in a collision between a pair of motorcycles on Route 1A north in Lynn at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Chelsea police identified the victim as Officer John Bruttaniti. Chief Brian Kyes says the 41-year-old Bruttaniti was on his way home.
Two people died in an accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Springfield at about 10 p.m. Thursday.
The victims were identified as the operator, 23-year-old Kyle Chapdelaine, and his passenger, 22-year-old Julisa Diaz, both of Chicopee.
The driver of the pickup is charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving drunk.
