Westminster , CA : 20-years Old driver was injured after he crashed into a Huntington Beach railroad crossing post on Tuesday late night, December 2nd 2014
A driver suspected of DUI crashed into a Huntington Beach railroad crossing post late Tuesday night, seriously injuring himself, police said.
Huntington Beach police and fire officials responded around 11:30 p.m. to reports of a solo crash near the intersection of West McFadden Avenue and Gothard Street.
A 20-year-old man from Huntington Beach was driving a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on West McFadden Avenue when "at some point he lost control and collided with an upright railroad crossing pole," Huntington Beach police traffic Sgt. David Dereszynski said.
Officials said the driver was trapped inside the SUV for about 20 minutes before firefighters were able to free him. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in serious condition and was later admitted in stable condition, Dereszynski said.
The driver was issued a citation for DUI and investigators suspect drugs were a factor in the crash.
Officials said the rainy weather may have also played a factor.
"The roadway was wet at the time of the collision, but it's unknown if it was raining at the time," Dereszynski said.
