Topeka, KS : Great Bend man killed over the weekend in fog-shrouded crash on Saturday, 17th September 2016
A 25-year-old Great Bend man was killed early Saturday when his vehicle crashed into the back of a semi-trailer on a fog-shrouded road in Seward County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:12 a.m. Saturday at US-54 highway and 8th Street, two miles east of Liberal.
The patrol said the driver of a 2205 Chrysler 300 was eastbound on US-54 when he failed to see a semi-trailer ahead of him slowing down to make a left-hand turn because of dense fog. The car struck the rear of the semi-trailer.
The car’s driver, Ramiro Palacio-Castillo, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the 2013 Freightliner semi, Angel Richardo Garcia-Velazquez, 27, of Liberal, was reported possibly injured. He was taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal for treatment. The patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
