Maple Hill, KS : Two hospitalized after 5-vehicle I-70 accident in Wabaunsee County on Friday, November 21, 2014
Two people were taken to Topeka hospitals after a multiple-vehicle accident Friday on Interstate 70 just west of Maple Hill.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, three vehicles were stopped in traffic about 4 p.m. because of an accident ahead of them on eastbound I-70. A fire truck was legally parked on the highway’s right shoulder.
Patrol records said a fourth vehicle, a Jeep Liberty driven by Brooke A. Doerr, 23, of Topeka, rear-ended one of the stopped vehicles, causing a chain-reaction crash involving all four. Doerr’s vehicle continued across the lane before hitting the fire truck parked on the shoulder, the report said.
Doerr, who according to the highway patrol was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center for treatment of disabling injuries.
Of the six other drivers and passengers involved, only one was taken to a hospital. The report said John K. Wolfram, 51, of Kansas City, Mo., was taken to Stormont-Vail for treatment of a possible injury.
The fire truck wasn’t occupied when the crash occurred.
