Halifax, NC : 5 year old boy killed in car wreck in Halifax County on Monday morning, May 2, 2016
A 5-year-old Roanoke Rapids boy was killed in a car wreck on Monday morning in Halifax County.
The boy, Makale Boyd, was unrestrained at the time of the collision and died on scene, according Lt. Jeff Gordon of the State Highway Patrol.
About 9 a.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to the fatal collision at the intersections of North Carolina highways 48 and 561.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that a rollback wrecker, operated by Edward Capps of Benson, was traveling east on NC561. At the same time, a compact passenger vehicle, operated by Lisa Solomon of Roanoke Rapids, was traveling south on NC48, Gordon told The Daily Herald in an email.
The driver of the rollback wrecker failed to stop at the sign at the intersection of NC48 and NC561, Gordon said. He said the rollback wrecker traveled into the path of the compact vehicle, striking it. At the time of the collision there was a 5-year-old child seated in the front right seat of the compact.
Investigators will be conferring with the Halifax County District Attorney’s office as to possible charges, he said, noting alcohol is not considered a factor in the collision.
