Half a dozen people, including students, were taken to the hospital following a Thursday morning crash between a Walton County school bus and a pickup truck.
Four students and the bus driver were transported to Healthmark Regional Medical Center by ambulance and a fifth student was taken to the hospital later by a parent, according to Walton County Superintendent Carlene Anderson.
The students on the bus were from Walton Middle and Walton High schools, she added.
Parents were permitted to pick up their children if they wished, and the rest were taken to school.
The driver of the truck, Troy Dupree, 28, of Westville, was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with life-threatening injuries, according a news release from the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.
A 10-month-old baby from Dupree’s truck was also taken to the hospital for possible injuries, the report noted.
Officers were called to the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Shoemaker Drive just before 7 a.m. Thursday.
The bus driver, Phyllis Pinson, was turning left onto Shoemaker from 90 when Dupree’s truck struck the front of the bus, the news release stated.
Dupree was westbound on 90 at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
