CAJON PASS, CA : 40-year-old Baldwin Park woman was killed in a head-on crash on Monday, January, 29th 2018
Officials said a 40-year-old Baldwin Park woman was killed in a head-on crash on Cajon Boulevard on Jan. 26.
Maria Gloria Zubia died in the crash, which occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Cajon Boulevard, south of Cleghorn Road.
California Highway Patrol officials said Zubia was headed south on Cajon Boulevard in a 2006 Nissan sedan while 19-year-old Victorville resident Gonzalo Garcia, driving a 2000 Chevrolet SUV, was headed the opposite direction.
Officials said Garcia was “passing several vehicles on the left side of a pair of painted solid double-yellow lines” just before he noticed the Nissan approaching him.
“Garcia took evasive action by swerving left while the driver of the Nissan swerved right,” officials said. “The vehicles collided head-on, causing the Chevrolet to travel out of control down an embankment.”
Zubia was pronounced dead on scene, officials said, while Garcia and his passengers were taken to a local hospital. Further details on their injuries weren’t available Monday.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed it or with additional information is asked to contact Officer Duran of the San Bernardino CHP office at 909-383-4247.
