Jacksonville,NC : Driver cited in wreck that caused power outage on February, Tuesday 27th 2018

Brittany Massie, 24, of Jacksonville was cited by JPD for careless and weakness driving and failure to maintain lane control, according to JPD Capt. Ashley Weaver.

Weaver said neither Massie nor her small child required medical assistance.

Henderson Drive is expect to be closed until midnight, Weaver said.

According to Duke Energy Progress, power is expected to be restored by 7:15 p.m.

A vehicle driving south in the 700 block on Henderson Drive around 4:53 p.m. Tuesday struck a utility pole causing it fall onto the sidewalk.

The driver and small child in the car were not injured.

The wreck and down power lines caused Jacksonville Police Department to close Henderson Drive to traffic in both directions with northbound traffic detoured at Elm Street while southbound traffic detours at Doris Avenue.


Duke Energy Progress crews are replacing the power pole damaged in the crash. Nearly 1,300 residents are without power in the area, according to the Duke Energy Progress outage map.

Officials on the scene expect the roadway to be closed for several hours.
