Oneida, NY : Car nearly crashes into Ye Olde Pizza Pub in Oneida on Thursday, June 1, 2017
It was a close call at Ye Olde Pizza Pub on Thursday as a vehicle came within inches of hitting the front of the restaurant.
Members of the Oneida Fire Department, Oneida City Police Department and Vineall Ambulance arrived at the pizza pub just before 1 p.m. in response to a call regarding a driver passed out at the wheel of a vehicle and that the vehicle may have hit the building.
Fortunately, the sedan stopped an inch or two before making contact with the pub. Neither the driver nor her passenger were injured as a result of the close call. Similarly, no restaurant goers were injured.
Oneida City Acting Police Chief Paul Thompson said that the driver is pregnant and passed out behind the wheel for an unknown reason as she went to move the car. Because of her pregnancy, the driver was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
“She went unconscious for some reason,” Thompson said of the driver, adding that police have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the mishap.
Fortunately, the passenger was able to wake the driver before the vehicle collided with the pub.
