A Bronx man has died after being involved in a car accident in Nassau early Thursday morning.Around 2 a.m. Thursday, the New York State Police were called to assist the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office with a stolen Ford Escape that failed to stop for deputies after it was spotted at a truck stop on Route 22 in Canaan.A Columbia County Sheriff patrol vehicle followed the Ford Escape as it continued north on Route 22. The vehicle turned west on Route 20 in the town of New Lebanon where a state police trooper joined the pursuit.According to police, the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed for approximately eight miles along Route 20 into Rensselaer County when deputies and troopers lost sight of it and stopped their pursuit.Just after 2:10 a.m., a car accident on Route 66 in Nassau was reported. The preliminary investigation revealed the Ford Escape had driven about one mile from where patrols lost sight of it before it crashed into an embankment.Passenger Joshua Castillo Rivera, 26, of the Bronx, was transported to Albany Medical Center where he later died. The driver and a second passenger are being treated for injuries at Albany Med.
Charges are pending against the driver.
