Apopka, FL : Driver killed in crash with tree near Apopka early Friday morning, December 23, 2016

A driver was killed early this morning when a vehicle plowed into a tree then caught fire west of Apopka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 1:45 a.m. on Round Lake Road near Meadowland Drive, the agency reports.

Authorities have been unable to identify the driver – even whether it was a man or woman – because of the blaze.

The vehicle, a Ford Focus, was traveling south on Round Lake Road when it went off the pavement and hit a tree.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, FHP reports.
