Chardon Township, OH : 1 dead, 1 arrested in Geauga County crash on State Route 44 Monday morning, December 1, 2014
A Mentor man is dead following an accident Monday morning in Chardon Township.
Timothy M. Roos, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene on state Route 44 at Hosford Road about 9 a.m.
Roos was southbound on state Route 44 when a northbound 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Mauricio G. Dasilva, 30, from Painesville attempted to pass another northbound driver.
Dasilva went left of center and struck Roos' 1992 Honda Civic.
Roos was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dasilva was taken to Lake Health's TriPoint Medical Center, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
He was then arrested and charged with improper passing, driving under suspension, vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.
He is being held at the Geauga County Jail.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol is not suspected. The crash remains under investigation.
