INDIANAPOLIS, IN : Woman killed in hit and run crash on city's southwest side on Saturday, February 25th 2017
A woman is dead after a hit and run and now police are trying to track down one of the cars that hit her. It happened around 8:30 Sunday night at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Holt Road on the southwest side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say they are looking for a red or maroon SUV that is either small or medium sized. They say they aren't certain how severely damaged the vehicle might be, but they did say they expect it to have undercarriage damage.
The accident happened in a dark area. There are street lights, but they're dim. Most of the businesses along Kentucky Ave. at Holt Rd. are closed on Sunday nights.
Police say that could have certainly contributed to this accident.
According to police, a 35-year-old woman was walking across the street when she was hit by a truck driving southwest on Kentucky. That driver stopped and has been cooperating with police. However, witnesses tell police a second car going in the opposite direction toward downtown Indianapolis hit the woman a second time, dragging her down the street. That person took off. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
"We do have debris to check and pick up and maybe we can get parts of the second vehicle," said IMPD Capt. Mike Elder. "And then the other thing is if anybody was in this area and saw something - saw a vehicle going northbound on Kentucky with damage - call Crimestoppers to help us out,"
