Mt. Pleasant, OH : Ohio driver in critical condition after Mt. Pleasant crash Sunday night on Avella Road near Caldwell Road on August 10, 2014
An Ohio man was in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital after crashing the tanker truck he was driving Sunday night on Avella Road (Route 50) near Caldwell Road in Mt. Pleasant Township.
Township police said Christopher Redman, 31, of Martins Ferry was driving east in a Smith Transportation water truck just before 9:30 p.m. when it apparently veered to the side of the road. Redman then pulled the truck back onto the road. It crossed the center line and rolled over, coming to rest in a ditch and partially in the westbound lane. The tank on the truck was filled with water at the time of the crash, police said.
Police Chief Lou McQuillan said there apparently were no witnesses to the crash. Police received two reports, one from a driver who happened upon it and another from a resident in the area who heard a loud crash.
Redman, who was not conscious, was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital. A spokeswoman said Redman was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.
The truck was impounded and will be inspected to determine if there were any mechanical problems.
Assisting at the scene were township firefighters, state police and Fort Cherry Ambulance.
