New Hampton, IA : Three people killed, 2 injured in car vs. semi crash on Highway 63 at 240th Street on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

Three people were killed and two hurt in a crash near New Hampton on Tuesday.

The crash was reported about 6:18 p.m. on Highway 63 at 240th Street.

A Chevy Malibu was traveling westbound on 240th Street and an Iowa State Patrol report shows failed to yield to a semi tractor-trailer.

The semi, driven by Kevin Powers, 34, of Ainsworth, was traveling northbound on Highway 63. The car was driven by Bertha Smith, 22, of Waterloo.

The semi hit the car broadside and both vehicles came to rest in the median, troopers said.

A rear passenger in the car was ejected during the crash.

Latorris Duffie, 24; Keith Demry, 29; and Devin Gordin, 25, were killed in the crash. Smith and Shaun Anderson, 25, were hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
