Emporia, KS : A 73-year-old Emporia man was injured after his pickup truck collided on April, Monday 24th 2017
A 73-year-old Emporia man was injured Monday after his pickup truck collided head-on with another vehicle as part of a chain reaction wreck.
At 3:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the report of a three-vehicle accident near the S-curve on Road F5 — commonly referred to as Americus Road. When emergency crews arrived, they found two vehicles had collided head-on.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Frank B. Sloat of Emporia was northbound on Road F5 in his 1992 Ford F-150 pickup when a 1991 Toyota pickup driven by 19-year-old Tyler Duane Ross of Americus collided with the back of his vehicle. That caused Sloat's vehicle into the southbound lane, where it hit head-on with a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup driven by 47-year-old Steven J. Gatewood of Reading.
Sloat was injured in the wreck and was transported to Newman Regional Health with undisclosed injuries. The hospital does not release patient information to the media.
Gatewood was listed as "injured" on the Kansas Highway Patrol's accident report, but refused medical transport. The document said Ross had suffered "possible injury," but he too declined to be taken to the hospital. All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The pickups owned by Sloat and Gatewood both sustained extensive front-end damage.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Emporia - Lyon County Fire and Rescue, Americus First Responders and the Kansas Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
