Sarasota, FL : Man killed on I-75 when car strikes construction vehicle in Sarasota County on Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2016

A North Port man was killed on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County on Sunday afternoon when the car he was in lost control and struck a piece of construction equipment, NBC2 reports.

Devontae Mitchell, 22, was a passenger in a car driven by Tyria Balcom, 20, of Sarasota. Mitchell died at the scene when their northbound car struck a construction barrel, overcorrected and eventually struck a parked asphalt paver, Florida Highway Patrol reports show.

Charges are pending the investigation, according to FHP.

There were no construction workers at the scene when the crash occurred.
