Passenger killed after SUV hits tree near

A Eureka Springs woman was killed Sunday in Carroll County when the sport utility vehicle she was riding in ran off the road and hit a tree, ejecting her, authorities said.It happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. as a 2008 Toyota RAV4 driven by 72-year-old Lawrence Brookbank, also of Eureka Springs, traveled north on Arkansas 187 in Beaver, according to an Arkansas State Police report.Police say the vehicle drifted off the road, struck a tree on the east side of the highway and ejected 76-year-old Kathryn Brookbank.Kathryn Brookbank died from unspecified injuries. Lawrence Brookbank was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo. His condition wasn't clear.Conditions at the time of the wreck were described in the report as clear and dry.The death was the 305th fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year.
