Columbus, OH : Bellefontaine woman dies in three-vehicle crash on Sunday September 4 2016
An ejected passenger died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Logan County, just north of Bellefontaine.
Twila A. Howell, 78, of Bellefontaine, was rushed from the scene to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marysville Post. The chain-reaction crash occurred at about 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Route 33 and County Road 37 in McArthur Township. Howell was not wearing a seatbelt.
David F. Downing, 74, of Bellefontaine, allegedly ran a stop sign while driving a pickup truck southwest on County Road 37, troopers said. Howell was a passenger in the vehicle.
A car driven by Kristi M. Jones, 30, of Cable, struck the pickup truck while heading east on Route 33. The car then struck an SUV stopped at the intersection, facing northeast. Natasha L. Mears, 40, of Lima, was driving that vehicle.
Downing, Jones and Mears were also transported to Mary Rutan Hospital but were not seriously injured in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
