WESTPORT, MA : 2 motorcyclists killed in separate crashes on Route 18 near the intersection with Walnut Street in New Bedford on South Coast on Saturday, 22nd June 2019
Two motorcyclists were killed in separate crashes in Bristol County this weekend, according to the district attorney's office.
The first crash happened at about 7 p.m. Saturday on Route 18 near the intersection with Walnut Street in New Bedford. Police said the victim was travelling at a high rate of speed through the intersection when he struck a curb, entered the center median and struck a large cobblestone planter. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.Police said the victim, identified as Andrew Mindyas, 63, of Westport, was rushed him to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The second crash happened at 6:35 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 177 and Tickle Road in Westport. Police said the victim, who was operating a Ducati motorcycle in the westbound lane of travel on Route 177, struck the side of a Ford Ranger as the Ranger turned onto Route 177 from Tickle Road.
Police said the victim, Cornelis Blom, 67, of Somerset, was found off the roadway in a wooded area. He died at the scene, police said.
