Glendale, AZ : 1 killed, pregnant woman injured in crash on Tuesday, 19th November, 2019
A woman died and another woman who is pregnant was taken to a hospital Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash that caused temporary closures in both directions on Grand Avenue, Glendale police said.
Grand Avenue was closed between 51st and 43rd avenues while the crash was investigated, said Officer Tiffany Ngalula, a Glendale police spokeswoman.
The closures lasted throughout the morning commute and reopened just after 1 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Police said a minivan was traveling northwest on Grand Avenue when it struck a tire obstructing the roadway. That caused the driver to lose control of her vehicle and cross over a median into oncoming traffic, Ngalula said.
The minivan crashed head-on into a vehicle traveling southeast on Grand Avenue, Ngalula said.
The driver of the second vehicle, 52-year-old Karen Render, was pronounced dead at the scene, Ngalula said.
