One killed in Pickens County accident
One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Pickens County.
The accident happened around 1:40 p.m. on Pope Field Road about .5 mile east of Easley, said Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 2011 Ford pickup driven by Tron McCoy, 36, of Easley was traveling west on Pope Field Road and was struck head-on by a 2009 Toyota four-door that was traveling east and crossed the centerline of the road, Rhyne said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the trooper said.
McCoy was not thrown from the Ford or trapped in it and was taken by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment, Rhyne said. Information about his condition was not available from the hospital Saturday night.
The driver of the Toyota also was taken to Greenville Memorial and later died there, Rhyne said. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office has not released further information about that person.
