Clinton Township ,MI :20-year-old Female driver crashes into another Motorist while fleeing police on Thursday afternoon ,April 23 2015

A 20-year-old Clinton Township woman who fled from police during a traffic stop and crashed into another motorist on Thursday had suspected narcotics in her car, according to police.

A Michigan State Police trooper tried to stop the 1999 Dodge Caravan for speeding about 2:20 p.m. on southbound Gratiot Avenue near 16 Mile Road. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot and stopped, but when the trooper exited his vehicle, the Caravan sped off.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and followed at speeds reported to be about 60 mph.

According to a news release, the driver slowed down for an intersection at 15 Mile Road, then drove through a red light and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound on 15 Mile Road.

F/Lt. Mike Shaw said both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. However, police at the scene said one of them was knocked unconscious in the crash.

A female passenger in the car being pursued by police was not injured, according to police.

Shaw said police found suspected narcotics in the Caravan. The driver was placed under arrest for operating while under the influence of narcotics and taken to the Macomb County Jail.
