Victoria,TX : Woman in critical condition after 1-vehicle wreck on December, Sunday 10th 2017

A one-vehicle wreck near Placedo on Sunday evening left a Port Lavaca woman in critical condition.

Erica Garcia, 31, was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango on Farm-to-Market Road 616 just north of McFaddin Street when she lost control going around a curve about 6:30 p.m., said Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, of the Department of Public Safety.

She overcorrected to the right, went across the road and then overcorrected to the left before going into a right side skid and turning over several times.

Garcia was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Her husband, Theodore Garcia Jr., 30, of Port Lavaca, and their 2-year-old son were passengers in the Durango. Their son was secured in a car seat.

Erica Garcia was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston and is in critical condition. Her son and husband were taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro and later released, San Miguel said.

What caused Garcia to lose control of the vehicle is under investigation, San Miguel said. DPS will continue to monitor her condition.

"Right now, we're hoping she'll be able to pull though it," he said.
