Baton Rouge, LA : Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Livingston Parish on Saturday, 7th April 2018
A bicyclist was killed and a Denham Springs man was arrested after a hit-and-run crash late Saturday in Livingston Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Chad Zimmerle, 38, of Denham Springs, died in the crash, State Police said in a news release. Around 10 p.m., Zimmerle was riding a bicycle westbound on La. 1025 east of La. 16 in Denham Springs. At the same time, 56-year-old Glenn Banta, also of Denham Springs, was driving on La. 1025 in a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado.
For reasons still under investigation, Banta struck Zimmerle from behind and fled the scene, State Police said. Zimmerle sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a few hours after the crash, troopers found Banta and his vehicle and took him into custody.
Banta was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on counts of hit and run and driving under suspension, State Police said.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional charges are pending.
