MORRISON, CO : Man in fatal I-70 crash west of Denver was drunk on August, Tuesday 22nd 2017

A coroner has found that the man who killed himself and another driver in a car crash on Interstate 70 west of Denver last month was legally drunk.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/2wy7qU0 ) Dan Pruett, Jefferson County chief deputy coroner, found 54-year-old Jeffery Stumpf had a blood-alcohol level of .146 when he drove across a median into oncoming traffic near Morrison, causing a five-vehicle crash that killed Stumpf, 52-year-old Jodie Stewart and injured six others.

Driving in Colorado with a blood-alcohol level of 0.05 or higher is illegal.

Colorado State Patrol troopers found an empty quarter-pint bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey and an unopened container of beer in the truck Stumpf was driving.

The toxicology test also found evidence that Stumpf had used cocaine and marijuana, although the tests couldn’t determine when.
