Wilsonville,OR : Man arrested after hit-and-run crash injures construction workers on I-5 on June, Tuesday 6th 2017

The crash on I-5 northbound between Aurora and Wilsonville the morning of June 6 sent two construction workers to the hospital and caused traffic delays for hoursA Beaverton man has been arrested after an alleged hit and run involving construction workers on Interstate 5 north of Aurora Tuesday morning.

Colin Michael Cook, 27, of Beaverton, was arrested and charged with failure to perform duties of a driver/injury, second-degree assault, reckless driving and reckless endangering. Oregon State Police reelased the names of the two construction workers, who were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. They are Antonio Manuel Bahena, 20, of Troutdale, and Ronald Ernest Davis, 57, of Powell Butte.

The incident occured around 3:15 a.m. June 6, when Knife River construction workers were clearing the roadway at milepost 280, north of the Aurora/Donald exit. A white box truck collided with the construction vehiccle, injuring the two workers. The truck kept going, but was later located by OSP troopers.

"This is a terrible situation that did not have to happen," said Knife River President Brian Gray, in a statement. "Our team members were working in the closed lane, on the other side of traffic barrels when their vehicle was hit. We ask two things: Please keep our injured team members and their families in your thoughts, and please pay extra attention and slow down in work zones so something like this never happens again."

The crash caused two of the three lanes of the highway to shut down, severely impeding traffic for hours. As emergency workers worked the scene, a black Jeep SUV was reported to be recklessly driving toward the crash scene, passing stopped traffic on the shoulders. The vehicle stopped at the crash scene and troopers took the driver into custody for several charges, including reckless driving.
