An investigation is underway after a Pendleton High School student died at the hospital following a single-car crash in Anderson County Tuesday.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said 19-year-old DJ Walters died at the hospital after the crash on Lebanon Road.

Shore said deputies are investigating the crash, which was reportedly caused by a passenger in the vehicle reaching over and grabbing the steering wheel.

Walters was riding in the back seat when the car crashed.

Shore said Walters died from blunt force trauma.

Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said investigators are working to determine if a criminal element was involved in the crash.

"The Sheriff’s Office is investigating that collision to determine if any criminal action was involved but, at this time, no charges have been made," Cole stated.
