MARTINEZ, CA : Highway 4 crash victim ID’d as Martinez woman on Friday, December 29th 2016

The Contra Costa coroner has identified the passenger killed after the car she was traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a concrete divider.

Paula Erben, 74, died a little after 9:57 a.m. Friday. The driver of the car, a 79-year-old man, remains in the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The crash occurred near the Interstate 680/Highway 4 junction. Erben was traveling in a Chrysler sedan heading east on Highway 4, and getting ready to head south on I-680, according to the California Highway Patrol.But the sedan overshot the southbound onramp and continued off the road and down a dirt embankment until it struck a concrete divider, according to CHP.

Police say drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the collision. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol at 925-646-4980.
