Martinsville, VA : Chase ends with wreck in Pittsylvania County on Tuesday, 27th March 2018

A police pursuit Tuesday evening in Pittsylvania County ended with a wrecked BMW on Iris Lane, state police reported.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, Virginia State Trooper William Barnes told the Register & Bee. A passenger was trapped in the back seat of the car and will be airlifted from the scene.

It all happened at about 6:50 p.m. starting on Franklin Turnpike.

“I turned my lights on, and that’s when he kicked it,” Barnes said. He then called in a pursuit to state police dispatch.

The chase, which reached estimated speeds of 75 mph, ended on Iris Lane when the white BMW crashed into a utility pole and brought wires down onto the vehicle.

Danville Utilities, along with Mount Hermon Fire and Rescue responders and Virginia State Police were still on scene shortly before 8 p.m.
