Springfield, MO : Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle on Kearney Street on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016

Police say a pedestrian died after she was hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning on Kearney Street near Westwood Avenue.

According to a news release from the Springfield Police Department, two women were trying to cross Kearney Street going north at about 11 a.m. when one of the women — Michelle McCown, 43, of Springfield — was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The release says McCown was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver — Johnnie Elliot, 70, of Willard — is cooperating with the investigation, and there is no indication he was intoxicated, according to the release.

More than half-a-dozen police cars responded to the scene in addition to a fire truck.

Police put up crime scene tape to surround the area where the crash occurred. Eastbound traffic on Kearney Street will be blocked while police investigate the crash.
