Knoxville, TX : Stolen car crashes into ambulance on I-640 Wednesday night, January 25, 2017
A car reported stolen crashed into a Rural/Metro ambulance on Interstate 640 Wednesday night, forcing the ambulance off the roadway into a retaining pond.
An emergency medical technician was taken to Parkwest Medial Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to Knoxville Police Department Sgt. Samuel B. Henard. The technician was not identified.
The wreck was reported about 7:30 p.m. on I-640 West at Interstate 40 West in West Knoxville.
The red 2016 Kia Rio was traveling westbound on I-640 when it struck the ambulance, according to Henard.
During the accident investigation, officers determined the Kia was reported stolen.
A passenger in the vehicle, Conley Pontifes of Knoxville, was identified as the theft suspect and there was a criminal summons on file for him, according to Henard. Pontifes' age was not available.
The driver of the Kia, Sheldonia Garner of Rockford, no age available, was cited for no insurance, violation of state registration law and failure to maintain a lane. She also was issued a misdemeanor citation for driving on a suspended license.
The driver of the ambulance was identified as Jennifer Russell, no age or hometown available.
A passenger in the ambulance was identified as Samuel Brookshear, no age or hometown available.
