Honolulu, HI : 89 year old woman killed in collision with motorcycle rider Darin Shimabukuro, 44, at South Beretania Street in Honolulu on Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Honolulu police have arrested a man suspected of hitting and killing an elderly woman with a motorcycle Wednesday evening. Police arrested 44-year-old Darin Shimabukuro for accidental death Thursday night at his Hawaii Kai home. He has since been released pending an investigation. On August 20, at approximately 5:25 p.m., police say an 89-year-old woman was crossing South Beretania Street, just before Punahou Street, when she was hit by a black Enduro-style motorcycle traveling west-bound. The crash caused the driver to fall off his motorcycle, but police say he was able to recover and fled the scene. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
