FRESNO, CA : California man sentenced in DUI collision that killed 4 on Saturday, January 14th 2017
A Central California man has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for causing a drunken-driving crash that killed four people, including a woman engaged to be married and her two young nephews.
Superior Court Judge Jonathan Conklin fought back tears when he sentenced Rien Ban Thursday.
The judge told Ban: “You are a murderer.”
A jury found the 45-year-old guilty of four counts of second-degree murder.
Investigators said Ban, who had three prior drunken driving convictions, was under the influence in June 2014 when he crashed into a Kia near Mendota while trying to pass a slower vehicle.
Prosecutors said two hours after the collision, Ban’s blood-alcohol registered nearly three times the legal limit.
Three people in the Kia died. A passenger in Ban’s SUV also died.
