A Linwood man has died after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. 64 Thursday afternoon in Davidson County, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Austin Michael Hoke, 23, of 2136 Swicegood Road, Linwood, was riding on a 2006 Honda motorcycle and traveling east on U.S. 64 when he lost control, ran off the road and struck several small trees.
Hoke was pronounced dead on the scene and the highway was closed in both directions for close to an hour.
The patrol reported that reckless driving and excessive speed were both factors in the accident. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph, and the roadway is considered a straightaway.
Reeds Volunteer Fire Department and Davidson County EMS also responded to the accident scene.
