Oneida County, NY : Endicott man hurt in bus crash in Verona on Saturday night, August 13, 2016
Troopers say a Saturday night crash between a limousine and a bus left an Endicott man and two others hospitalized in Oneida County.
Daniel Sokol, 25, from Endicott, was driving a 2006 Cadillac limo eastbound along Beacon Light Road in Verona when he tried to make a right turn onto Route 31, failing to yield right of way to a Birnie bus that was southbound, according to state police. The limo hit the passenger side of the bus, sending it sliding clockwise into the oncoming Route 31 lane, police say, where the rear of the bus struck a northbound 2010 Ford passenger vehicle that was sent veering off the east side of the road into a culvert.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m., state police said.
Sokol was ejected from the limo and into the roadway, according to police, who say he suffered facial cuts and abrasions, as well as a pelvic injury. He was taken to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
The Ford's driver, 22-year-old Marisa Holden of Mohawk and passenger Nina Stoecke, 25 of Caroga Lake, were hospitalized for lacerations and abrasions. Police say the bus driver, 25-year-old Joseph Larmer of Rome, was not injured in the crash.
Firefighters from Verona and Vernon also responded to the scene of the wreck, along with Vineall Ambulance personnel, Oneida County Sheriff's deputies and members of the state Department of Transportation.
State troopers in Oneida County say an investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
