Joplin, MO : Three injured in accident in Newton County on Saturday, January 21, 2017
Two women and a child were injured at 9:40 a.m. Saturday in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 49, 4 miles south of Joplin in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Janice S. Smith, 48, suffered moderate injuries and Nellie A. Boyer, 68, and Sophia Bunch, 5, suffered minor injures. The passengers, as well as driver Bandy S. House, 39, are all from Goodman. Smith was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Springfield; Boyer and the child were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Joplin.
According to the patrol, House lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement and traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a bridge. The 2014 Ford Fiesta then traveled back across the roadway and struck the left side of the bridge, coming to rest on the roadway.
