FORT LORAMIE, OH : Man killed in an early morning crash on Thursday, June 22, 2017

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in an early morning crash.

The victim was identified as 55-year-old John Payne from Tipp City.

The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 5000 block of OH-705 near Fort Loramie.

According to a press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, a semi-tractor pulling a milk tanker was heading west when Payne, who was driving, ran off the right side of the road, into a ditch and overturned. Payne was trapped in the vehicle. Crews worked to him, but Payne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding to the scene were deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Loramie Rescue, Fort Loramie Fire Department and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
