Columbus,OH : 4-year-old dies from injuries in Winton Rd. drag racing crash on January, Monday 1st 2018
A 4-year-old girl succumbed to injuries on Tuesday that she suffered in a drag racing crash on Winton Road.
Cincinnati Police Department made the announcement after the child died while being treated at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Police responded to 5300 Winton Road in Winton Hills at around 1:20 p.m. Monday after a 4-vehicle crash left seven people injured, two seriously.
Officers said two northbound vehicles made contact and veered into the southbound lane of Winton Road. Each struck one other vehicle. Police said the two vehicles were drag racing.
The 4-year-old girl in a Ford Taurus, which was one of the two vehicles that crossed into southbound lanes, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Children's Hospital.
Lori Spinneweber, 52, was in one of the southbound vehicles and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center and was listed in fair condition Monday night.
Six of the seven people involved in the crash remained hospitalized Monday, but all were in fair or better condition with the exception of the child, police said.
Investigators said the 4-year-old was wearing a seatbelt, but was not in a child safety seat.
Excessive speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said in a news release.
