Hibbing, MN : Grand Rapids man injured in a one-vehicle crash north of Coleraine on Wednesday, March 29, 2017

A Grand Rapids man was injured during a one-vehicle crash at 5:53 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 310 on Highway 169 north of Coleraine.

Tyler J. Hermes, 21, was transported via LifeLink III medical helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

A 2002 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Hermes was traveling north on Highway 169 just north of Coleraine, when the vehicle left the road to the west side, crossing over the median and southbound lanes. The Trailblazer then struck a tree in the southbound ditch, where it came to rest, according to the report.

Hermes was wearing a seatbelt. An airbag deployed.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. It’s unknown if alcohol was involved, according to the report.

Assisting agencies were the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Coleraine Police Department and the Trout Lake Fire Department.
