Tacoma, WA : One person injured after collision involving five cars on I-5 in Tacoma on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2015

A collision on southbound Interstate 5 near the 56th Street exit in Tacoma has blocked multiple lanes of I-5 in both directions causing major backups, according to tweets from the Washington State Patrol and the Department of Transportation.

A pickup was northbound on I-5 near 56th, lost control, and struck the inside barrier, Trooper Guy Gill said in a tweet. Debris struck four cars going southbound.

Crews are working to clear the accident and no major injuries were reported, according to WSP.

WSDOT recommends finding alternate routes to avoid the area.
