Canton, OH : A 24-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash at Intersection of Market Avenue On Thursday, June 30th, 2016

A 24-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Canton overnight.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at the intersection of Market Avenue and 30th Street at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

Christian Thornton, 24, was crossing Market Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene after the crash.

Thornton's roommate, Tre Brink, told newsnet5.com the man had was walking home from a job he had just started when he was killed. He leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter.

"I don't know how you can live with the regret that you've just taken a human life and honestly leaving the scene makes you a big coward," Tre Brink said.

Jackson Township police were chasing a robbery suspect around the same timeframe of the crash overnight, but called it off after five to 10 minutes without arresting the driver.

According to Jackson Township police chief Mark Brink, a man went into Spee-D-Foods on Everhard Road and robbed the clerk at knife point.

Police found the car they believed to be the suspect's and chased it until speeds reached about 100 mph. It ended about seven to eight blocks from the fatal crash site.

It's unclear at this time whether the two incidents are connected.

"Whether he was just involved in the armed robbery or he's involved in both of these, this guy needs to be off the street," the chief said.

A piece of the vehicle's headlight was found at the scene. Anyone who sees a car with a damaged headlight and front end damage is asked to call the Ohio State Highway Patrol at (330)433-6200.
