Jasper, TX : 1 dead, 2 injured in U.S. 190 crash west of Jasper on Tuesday, October 18, 2016

A Woodville man died Tuesday after his colliding with an 18-wheeler along U.S. 190 west of Jasper, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a release.

Averil Gore, who was 51 years old, crossed the center dividing line while driving eastbound on U.S. 190, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said. An 18-wheeler traveling westbound moved to the shoulder of the roadway to avoid hitting the car, a 2002 Dodge pickup. The Dodge, however, struck the left portion of the 18-wheeler, Davis said.
Gore was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The passenger riding in the Dodge was also transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, but her injuries did not appear life-threatening, Davis said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 35-year-old Raymond Gilkey, from Livingston, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, Davis said.

Traffic in both directions along U.S. 190 reopened at about 4:45 p.m., Texas DPS said.
