Benton Harbor, MI : 19-year-old killed, driver arrested in Michigan crash on Tuesday night, January 26, 2016
A 19-year-old Benton Harbor man killed in a crash Tuesday night has been identified by authorities as Alphonzo Lamonte Porter Jr.
In addition, the driver of the car in which he was a passenger has been arrested and identified as Ulises Damian Rangel, 22, of Benton Township, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.
Rangel is expected to be arraigned in Berrien County Trial Court today, Jan. 27 on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and charged with operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended, revoked, or denied causing death.
Authorities said the investigation is still continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
The Berrien County Sheriff's Office said Porter was the rear seat passenger of a speeding 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Rangel which struck a van at the intersection of East Empire Avenue and Pipestone Street on the city's southeast side at just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Berrien County Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Team is helping to investigate the crash.
