Sacramento, CA : 1 dead after vehicle crashes off Interstate 8 in El Cajon on April, Tuesday 11th 2017

a 222-year-old man died after crashing his SUV off the right shoulder of Interstate 8 near El Cajon Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

He was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as Andy Mezi, of El Cajon.

His Chevrolet Equinox veered into the dirt center divider, and Mezi over-corrected along the westbound freeway between Los Coches Road and Greenfield Drive, CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

The SUV smashed into a chain link fence and rolled over several times as it plunged 50 to 100 feet down an embankment, the CHP said. The battered vehicle got lodged between steel support poles for a billboard.

No other vehicles or people were involved. Mezi died before he could be taken to a hospital. Pearlstein said it was unclear if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The collision was reported about 10 p.m.
