Gaston County, N.C : Teen dead after being hit by car, run over by officer in Gaston County on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2014

Emergency crews were on the scene of a deadly crash in Gaston County early Tuesday morning involving a pedestrian and a police cruiser. Officials told that the wreck happpened around 5:20 a.m. on Dallas-Cherryville Highway and Ashebrook Park Road, near Costner School Road. State troopers said the pedestrian -- identified as 18-year-old Julie Coleman -- was riding a moped when she got off and stepped out into traffic wearing her helmet. The moped was parked in the front yard of the home. Officials said they are not sure why she walked out in front of the car. Troopers say the driver saw her dart in front of the car. He swerved but it was too late. She then flew into the path of a van and she was then hit by Gaston County Police cruiser. Troopers said none of the drivers are at fault. “We spoke to everyone involved in the crash. Everyone is upset, including the county officer.
